Back to Normal

Last night, our son came home with two of his friends. One of the kids bought a Marshmellow gun from Cabela's. It was quite entertaining as they shot each other with mini marshmellows. It was amusing to say the least.

Well, my sweet girl has begun her journey back to college. Tears turned into smiles once her companions arrived. The girls were laughing and giggling as they watched Scott try and pack the trunk of her car. Once that was closed he had to strap a bookcase onto the back. Not to mention another bag, stuffed animals and some other items sitting in the backseat. Needless to say it is going to be a very cozy ride back to college for the girls sitting in the back.

Now life does get back to normal.

Wow, I can't believe its been nearly 2 months since I posted anything. I will try and do better. Should you not hear from me, send me a message. To busy with holidays, family, school, ebay, online store and life in general.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Our family sure did. Our daughter came home from college and is now staying with us for a few more days before she returns. I already miss her and she hasn't even left. My in laws left for Florida last week.

My husband is putting in a tile floor. This project is taking a lot longer than I anticipated (you know how it is-wives always think it can be done in a day and it takes our husband's a month-lol). I am hoping he is done shortly. The real problem is I wanted the tile at a 45 degree angle along with the decorative tile, etc. So, we compromised really because my kitchen is just not big enough to accomodate my big ideas-ha,ha. But the tile is going in at a 45 degree angle and I get to have the decorative tile only it is going to be around the table and not the entire kitchen area. This will sure look nice once it is completed. See pictures below.

Must Be Genetics

Today, my husband and I had to go for bloodwork for insurance purposes and to get a better rate. Most of you may know that I am a little older than my sweet husband. Not only am I older but it appears I am in better health-lol. My blood pressure and good cholestrol are way better than his. He walks more but I drink more water and probably eat more veggies and fruit. Even though my bad cholestrol is a little higher I lost 10 pds-I really think the scale was off but I will take it. Then just to do a finger stick the nurse kept telling Scott to go drink more water because they couldn't get enough blood out of him-took the poor guy 3x. Scott must take after his Dad's side of the family and I must take after my Grandfather (I told Scott, that my Grandfather had lower blood pressure but he must have raised everyone elses-lol). So, I guess a lot of it must go back to genetics keep that in mind when you are told your cholestrol is high but do take care of yourself and eat your veggies and fruit.

By the way, afterwards we went out for breakfast. I had french toast with butter and syrup and Scott had home fries, bacon, bisquit and gravy with eggs and a large milk-I told him that is a heart attack waiting to happen; no wonder your cholestrol is so high. Well, in less than 24 hours with some help from my technically smart husband, I added 4 blogs to my list. I am impressed with myself-lol. I am very technically challenged. Two of the ladies Jessica and Shirley, I know personally for several years. Modern Sugar's, Natalie, has been such a help in the past with getting me buttons and just helping. Sabriolet Designs is just new and I liked her cards so I put her on, hoping to rejuvenate my creativity.

Between running my Ebay Store, online store, taking a class and life it just seems overwhelming at times and I wish there were two of me to go around. Anyway, I am happy I got this much accomplished. I did get to make two cards for my daughter on Sunday which I am hoping to send in the mail today. I forgot to take pictures though. I am finishing a shelf for my mudroom and a birdhouse for a Christmas present.

Well, its been nearly 6 weeks since I have posted anything-whew! Just been busy. And last week was even busier. The brand new Cricut cartridge, Chic & Scary made its arrival and I worked non stop to get over 100 customers their cartridge. I have a few left but not to many so if you haven't purchased one, you might want to do it soon. I even have a few Simply Scarecrow and Scandinavian Christmas Cards.

Our daughter came to visit us almost 2 wks ago from college. It was so good to see her. That has been the longest time ever we have been apart. I couldn't stop hugging her. We had a family meal, friends sleepover, soccer game and visit-at least she did a lot in the short amount of time she was here. We look forward to seeing her again soon for the holidays. We do Skype so that is always nice but not the same and of course we text.

Does anyone else have kids in college? What do you do with yourself since they have left?

Earthquake, Hurricane and Flooding

Well, this has been our life for the last 2 weeks, I think. Currently, NEPA is suffering from major flooding in our area. I am greatful that we are safe and dry. 4 AM this morning we were trying to stop the water from flowing through our basement - 2 sump pumps, shop vac, 5 gallon buckets and a mop were used to get the water out. Unbelieveable all the rain that fell last night. It was like buckets of water were being thrown at our home.

With all this destruction and uncertainty, I need to keep in mind that God is not surprised by all this. He is still on His throne, working all this out for our good and His glory-don't know how but He is faithful. I need to keep this in mind as I just feel depressed with all this going on in our area. And all the people that have been evacuated from their homes and lost their personal belongings and some do not even have flood insurance. Last week, we traveled to NY to pick my Dad up because he was being evacuated due to Hurricane Irene and now people in NEPA are in the same situation due to Hurricane Lee.

I guess it hasn't been to long since I last posted. August has been super busy here! My husband, daughter and myself went on a missions trip along with 4 others to the Dominican Republic. We built a roof for a Haitian chapel. It took about a day and half because of the size. This was one of the first times TIME Ministries had anyone attempt such a feat. But God was good and kept us safe and provided the help and REALLY Hot days to build. We had other opportunities to visit other churches and the teens had a puppet show for children which the kids really liked. Not sure if anyone has heard about Cercadillo in the DR. Its a village not recognized by the gov't because they people for whatever reason have no birth certificates. So, this wonderful lady, Ina has been there I think for about 5 years and you would not believe the difference. Other churches have come from around the world to build wells, chapel, organize healthcare, dental care, VBS and a host of other things for the benefit of the village. The ladies have learned to sew and make these beautiful bags, necklaces, and pouches. They need someone to help market these items and sell them in the USA; so if you know anyone who has importing knowledge, please let me know. Thanks! While we were in the DR, we received a call that my Dad had pneumonia and was in the hospital. So upon returning, we left for NY to see how he was doing. He didn't look good that's for sure but he is coming around. Followed by taking our daughter to college. This was a time of mixed emotions (I was in a daze I think for those few days, really) because she is having a great time but at the same time it was sad because she is growing up and we are experiencing the Empty Nest Syndrome.

Know sooner do we return home Hurricane Irene is closing in on the East Coast, so back to NY we go. My Dad's hometown area was evacuated and we had to drive back to NY to pick him up. At least I can keep my eye on him. He is not really happy but we just got our electricity back Monday afternoon and he still doesn't have it.

So, I feel like August was a blur. Not to mention, I am taking an online class which began Monday (I think I am out of my mind or will be shortly).

Enjoy your final days of summer before school begins again. Take lots of pictures to preserve those memories.

Heat, Home and Trucks

I'm back! Love technology - I can post from almost anywhere. And our son was keeping his Dad posted as to fixing his girlfriends (but they are really just FRIENDS!) truck which she just purchased for vacation so now their vacation is delayed (she is not happy). We are home and it is hot. I miss central air; it was so nice.

As soon as we get in the door our son is ready to fix his girlfriend's truck. She bought this truck (even though she was adviced against it) because she needed one for vacation. Anyway, it had to be towed home. My son has been working on it most of the weekend and waiting for his Dad to come home and help. Its a Ford 250 and for whatever reason it is not getting the gas it needs so they are checking fuel lines, filters and gas pump, etc.

The Beach - Fire Island, NY

That's exactly what it is today at Fire Island! On fire at the beach. We have been visiting my Dad in NY. Today, despite the fact it was 103 degrees when we left the beach there were lots of people there. And, yes some of us got sunburned. So put that sunblock on and put a second coating on and possibly a third. Even though I sat in the shade I still got a little burned. I also forgot my camera so I borrowed my daughter's friends and only took a few pics. I was hoping to take more so I could use Bo Bunny newest beach collection kit or Echo Parks.

Anyway, enjoy the day and the great sunshine. Drink lots of fluids to stay hydrated.

Mini Stroke

My father in law had a mini stroke while enroute to MT from Canada, last week. However, he did not go to the drs until yesterday. Fortunately, he is now in the hospital and he is under a drs care. So, if you are suffering symptoms of a mini stroke please go to the ER and get the care you need. Fortunately, God was with him and he is doing good so far although they are still awaiting the results of the ekg. Take care of yourself and get the care you need. Please don't mess around when you are having stroke symptoms.

Cricut Expression Repair

Have you had problems with your Cricut Expression machine? Well, a friend of mine did; it just stopped cutting and she couldn't use the speed or pressure gauges. My dear husband, the Electronics guru fixed it although it is not a permanent fix but right now it will work and Lisa can save her money for a new one. He took the left side panel off and simply pulled off the control line. When she turns it on, it will only cut on max speed and pressure but that is better than nothing and she is happy. Really, all she has to do is turn down the needle strength. So, thank you dear Scott for fixing Lisa's machine. She is quite a happy camper. 3X is a charm as Scott was her last hope after two other guys looked at it. We keep telling him, he is a genius.

This past weekend about 6 of us got together and went camping (sort of). Some brought campers and another brave soul brought her tent. We set up tables in a cabin and had munchies and laughed. My wonderful husband, came over Sat. morning and made us breakfast. Anyway, we had a good time. Prizes, games, a lot of laughter and sad stories were told. In between all that, projects were completed and many pages were done. Mid morning, Karen gave a devotional from Psalm 59 and how we are not in control but God is. So stop worrying and keep your eyes on Him. We played Scrapbook Bingo-whoever had 5 in a row first won a prize. Then we had Mr. Green Frog - he was passed around to whoever finished a page entirely. I am not sure how many pages I finished but I did complete an 8x8 album. And I even got my 4th of July pics scrapbooked from this yr. Only because I wanted to use this new kit, I Love America by Best Creation. It was a toss up between Bo Bunny and BC because both are beautiful. Keep in mind, I still have pictures from my daughter's graduation party last yr that are not scrapbooked-there are just so many! And less, I forget Sharon made T Shirts for us. Karen showed us how to make flowers with Mother's Day Bouquet and use different mediums to enhance the floral look. She also showed us how to use We R Memory Keepers Sew Easy mat and pennant wheel.

Today is the day to recover after a busy weekend. We went to our local state park and finally found a picnic table-the place was PACKED. Forgot matches for the grill, so we borrowed someone's lighter-thank you whoever you are. Ate, talked, took pictures then went canoeing and kayaking. It is then that the fun really begins. When you have two teenagers who love to torture their mother because their mother is so gullible and is a coward when it comes to water. I am the only one with a life jacket on to begin with so as we are going along, they are telling me there is a huge falls ahead because of all the rain we received. I am thinking we are on a lake how can there be a falls? Then they are hanging on to our canoe which makes me nervous because I don't want to tip over and get all wet and I have my camera with me. We all had a great time but I was relieved to be back on shore. But I do have to mention this funny scenario-on our way back both of the kids were frightened by a water snake. The kids were looking in the weeds and saw this snake with his mouth open and looking right at them-ha,ha. I told them that is God getting revenge for me because they were tormenting me.

50th Anniversary Party

Yesterday, my in laws celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Wow, that is a long time to stick it out with one person. Mom & Dad creditted Jesus as the reason their marriage has lasted so long. Everyday it requires work and by obeying God's word they came through many, many hardships. It was a beautiful day!Many friends and family attended this special event. Sharon made the cake, Leeann made the centerpieces made w ith Werther's candies and I did an album and invitations.

There are at least 20 pages or more-to many to put on here but this is just a sample. I bought embellishments, paper, etc. from every craft store I visited just to have variety. I was hoping for a gold album and found one in Michael's by Martha Stewart and of course, I had my handy dandy 40% coupon. It was fun to make. Once they pick the pictures they would like I said, I would put them in the album for them.

I was up late last night so I am in slow gear. I had to finish Beverly Lewis, new release, The Thorn. Now I can move on to the The Judgement. The final book in the series is due in September 2011. I will be ready. I have been reading more this summer. Sometimes, my daugher and I will just sit in the livingroom and read together - different books of course. She read The Atonement and The Redemption by Francine Rivers, another really good author. About two wks ago I just finished Beverly Lewis, The Nellie Fischer Series-really good!

Father's Day

How did you and your family spend Father's Day? Last week, we visited my Dad in NY. Then this weekend my husband and son bonded in MD at a Motocross event. My husband actually won first place in beginner class - Congratulations Scott! (Don't tell anyone but there were only 2-3 in his class). Both of my men had a good time. Me and my girl were helping to raise money for our missions trip to the DR this summer. We had a movie night and showed, Toy Story 1. Food, movie, ice tea, lemonade and your friends support - what more could you ask for. We had a good time and are greatful for all the people that came out. And of course, God provided abundantly, above all we could ask or imagine.

Hope you had a great Mother's Day! I celebrated with my husband and kids. BBQ, beautiful yellow and pink roses and a flat of Impatients (Pink) from my kids. I even called my Dad and wished him a Happy Mother's Day - he laughed. Although we had to buy a new grill for the BBQ. Our old one died-it was living by prayers alone. I think it had to be 15-20 yrs old and it was small. This new one makes me want to invite people over and BBQ more. It even has one of those side cookers.

Cricut Christmas Card

Bloomsburg Fair

My husband and I went to the fair yesterday. Although it is not his favorite thing to do, he went for me (thanks Scott). My family lived in NYC for many yrs and one of the traditions we had was to skip school on the weekend and drive from NYC with our grandparents to PA. I was always amazed that the entire school district had the week off from school. Growing up in the city I found that truly wonderful; how fortunate for those kids but I on the other hand had to go to school. We would wonder around to all the exhibits and see family members we hadn't seen since the last yr. It was fun to say the least. Now, 40 yrs later we are texted by our kids - "Do you want to buy us supper?" I told Scott that we should not answer the text and run for the exit and then say, sorry we have already left - (aren't I a bad mother?). Of course, we didn't do that. We met them gave them money and wished them a nice evening with their friends being the good parents that we are. Believe it or not I didn't bring my camera. I did think about keeping the stubs for admission as my momento and putting it in my scrapbook but didn't even do that. Sometimes its nice just to go and relax and not have to take pictures. I am learning I don't have to scrapbook everything that happens in life. Somethings I would rather forget, wouldn't you? Anyway, if you haven't gone to the fair (Bloomsburg) that is, go-it is a beautiful day and go without your camera. Just enjoy all the people around you and your loved ones. Enjoy the colors, sounds and smells.

Well, I survived a crop about two weeks ago. I was quite disappointed as things did not go as I had hoped. I had put in a lot of time in different crafts to display the paper I sell. I decorated a clock, a birdhouse, frame and big paper clip. It was fun doing it but disappointed with the results. There were about 8 vendors and most of us are small. However, there was one huge vendor and of course all the ladies were in awe of them as I was-to have so many papers, embellishments, etc was amazing. And the owners were very pleasant. However, it was disheartening that the rest of us were not as busy as we had hoped. So, is that how it is in the business world of scrapbooking or weekend crops? Do most small businesses like mine and others have to go up against a large business? How do you compete? Is that even fair to the small scrapbook business to be put up against such a large scrapbook business? If I had known that I am not so sure I would have wanted to participate - is that fair to me or or the others? I spent more money this year to be competitive and made less. Yes, I did enjoy the ladies I was with; a great group of ladies and the atmosphere was great. And then, would you believe, the hotel overbooked and we small vendors had to move and they wanted to put me and another lady in a room down the hall where we would be virtually unseen. Thankfully, that didn't happen and other decisions were made but it was quite interesting to say the least. Any thoughts?

Funny Crop Stories

About a month ago, I was going to go to a crop sponsored by my friend Karen. I brought everything I needed, so I thought. I asked Karen what should I bring? She said, "Bring your chipboar album and paper." So I did. I had my chipboard album covered with paper and mod podged and was sitting there wondering what to do next. Never thinking I needed pictures or anything else for that matter. So, I had to go home which thankfully is only 5 miles away. My wonderful friends told me I was under to much stress because my daughter left for Florida on her senior missions trip, I was planning her graduation party and other things were going on so my mind was not totally with it. But we all laughed and had fun with it. I did go home and get the pictures but decided to finish my daughter's scrapbook album of graduation night. I did eventually get the chipboard album done although it still doesn't have pictures in it. And on another occassion, I went to a crop as a vendor with my shirt on inside/out. And again, another good friend, Ladonna, told me about my fashion mistake before I made a complete idiot of myself

Cleaning Cricut Cutting Mats

I don't know about you but I had heard using a baby wipe to clean your cutting mat works wonders! So, last night, I was using my cricut machine and the paper started to slide while it was cutting. So, I thought I would try the baby wipe idea and to be honest alot of dirt came off (sounds disgusting, makes me wonder about the rest of my house). Anyway, I tried it and I have been using the same mat a few more times and the paper is not sliding. It seems to have a little more stickness to it. Don't get me wrong, I do have some brand new mats here to use or sell but I am cheap and I thought I would give it a try. If you have tried this and it works let me know. I have also heard using the 2 way glue by ZIG works. Have you tried the glue marker? Let me know how it goes or if you have any other tips to prolonging the life of your cricut cutting mat.

National Scrapbook Day Celebration

How did you celebrate NSBD? Well, I had a lot of journaling and titling to do. But, I finished Christmas and some other pages of my kids. I still have several more pages to complete. I am glad for my good friends who showed up to scrapbook with me. Prizes, Happy Mother's Day chocolate lollipops, chocolate covered strawberries (they were a big hit) and chocolate covered pretzels were among some of the delicious goodies we shared today. My good husband cooked chicken on the grill for us for dinner - wasn't that nice? Even after he rode his dirt bike. And I certainly wouldn't have a nice big place to scrap if it wasn't for him. So, a big thank you goes to Scott for helping NSBD be a hit at our place.

Refinishing an antique table

Well, after being stored in my basement for nearly 2 years, I finally decided to refinish my great grandmother's table. So far, I have stripped most of the paint and shellac off and when I am done I am going to either stain it or just polyurethan it. What do you think? I have not finished the bottom of the table as of this date but I am working on it. So, if you decide to do a similar project, make sure you wear rubber gloves and do it outdoors.
